This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, June 26,
2-14 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You
may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

It has been very wet this week in most of the northwest, so be aware
that roads may not be passable or marginal at best. Flycatchers are the
most active in our yard this week as the insects have been thriving on
the humidity.

Dan and Sandy Thimgan reported a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO in their yard in
Otter Tail County on June 20.

In Clay County at Felton Prairie on June 21, Josh Wallestad found 10
GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS, 2 or 3 CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS, a WESTERN
KINGBIRD, GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, and MARBLED GODWITS. Along CR 108, he
saw a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE.

Emily Hutchins observed a HENSLOW'S SPARROW singing on their land near
Mentor in Polk County on June 23.

A first summer male ORCHARD ORIOLE visited our feeder east of Thief
River Falls in Pennington County, today, June 26.

Pat DeWenter visited Itasca State Park in Clearwater County on June 23
where she observed BLUE-HEADED VIREO, WINTER WREN, HERMIT THRUSH, CEDAR
WAXWING, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA,
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, PINE WARBLER,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, CANADA WARBLER, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW,
and PURPLE FINCH among many others.

Thanks to Dan and Sandy Thimgan, Emily Hutchins, Josh Wallestad, and Pat
DeWenter for their reports.

free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders please call
