11, 2008 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce.
You may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or
1-800-433-1888.

Snow has arrived in the northwest. Amounts are generally not over 4
inches, and the whole area looks like Christmas. Luckily, there have
been no storms yet, and the snow came down softly so roads are still in
very good condition except actually during the light snowfalls when
caution is required.

Beth Siverhus in Warroad, Roseau County reported an AMERICAN ROBIN on
December 6, and a flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS feeding on crabapples on
December 5.

On December 7, Larry Wilebski reported a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK near his
cabin northwest of Lancaster in Kittson County.

Cliff Steinhauer saw a flock of 47 AMERICAN CROWS in Marshall County on
December 1. Other species seen in the county included a NORTHERN SHRIKE.

Here in Pennington County, a NORTHERN SHRIKE appeared outside our window
on December 9. A PILEATED WOODPECKER , sometimes with his mate, has been
visiting the suet feeder daily.

Shelley Steva has seen a SNOWY OWL several times along US 59 near the
Pennington/ Red Lake County line.

Karen Suldahl reported 4 WAXWINGS and an AMERICAN ROBIN in Climax on
December 6.

Mark Otnes saw 40 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS two miles north of Twin
Valley in Norman County on December 5.

In Clay County, Mark found two EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES in Hitterdahl on
December 5. Roger Haglund reported a BALD EAGLE, RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER,
NORTHERN FLICKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER, a pair of NORTHERN CARDINALS, and
about 30 PINE SISKINS seen at his place along the Red River near
Moorhead on December 6.

Scott Kahan saw a group of PINE GROSBEAKS north of Little Pine Lake in
Otter Tail County on December 4. On December 8, Tom Smith reported 23
MOURNING DOVES southwest of Fergus Falls. Dan Thimgan reported that the
CAROLINA WREN is still visiting his yard sporadically.

Thanks to Beth Siverhus, Karen Suldahl, Larry Wilebski, Mark Otnes,
Roger Haglund, Scott Kahan, Dan and Sandy Thimgan, Shelley Steva, and
Tom Smith for their reports.
