We have had a teaser of spring conditions this week, but as I compile
this report, the snow is blowing again and the temperatures are falling.
Within the past week we have seen and heard that the lengthening days
have got the resident birds singing their spring songs again. Much of
the snow that we had has melted and evaporated this week, but surely
some is being replaced and old man winter isn't about to leave so
easily.

The Fargo- Moorhead Audubon Society took a trip to the Roseau area on
February 16 where they had good success. Seen were a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK,
NORTHERN GOSHAWK, several NORTHERN HAWK OWLS, a SHORT-EARED OWL,
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, GRAY JAY, PINE GROSBEAK, COMMON REDPOLL, one
HOARY REDPOLL,and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS among others . All were seen
in the Roseau bog or in and around the town of Roseau.

Doug Johnson saw a NORTHERN GOSHAWK at Three Island County park in
Beltrami County on February 4. On Sunday, February 6, he saw a
BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE on Pincherry Road a miles south of CR 20 east of
Bemidji. A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was also seen in the area. About 50
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in Bemidji on February 8.

Matt Mecklenburg reported that BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in Middle
River, Marshall County , by the Fargo-Moorhead group on February 16.

Sandy Aubol in East Grand Forks, Polk County, reported on February 16, 3
CEDAR WAXWINGS, and 45 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen on the north side of
the city that day. Other species seen in the area included 4 AMERICAN
ROBINS, COMMON REDPOLLS, one HOARY REDPOLL, and some AMERICAN
GOLDFINCHES. On February 17, a COMMON GRACKLE came to her yard.

In Otter Tail County on February 13, Jo Fritz observed a GREAT HORNED
OWL on the north side of Fergus Falls on N. Vine St between W Birch and
W Beech Avenues.
