This has been a quiet weather week in the northwest except for the wind
, which has been anything but quiet. Despite this, reports of SNOWY OWLS
continue to come in. Heidi Hughes as received reports of owl sightings
in Polk, Pennington, Marshall, and Roseau Counties this week.
In Kittson County, Larry Wilebski reported two SNOWY OWLS between
Lancaster and Humboldt on December 3.
Maggie Anderson, at Agassiz NWR in Marshall County, reported a SNOWY OWL
continues to be seen along CR 7 between the headquarters and South Pool.
At the feeders at headquarters, there are BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and COMMON
REDPOLLS, and elsewhere in the refuge a few ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS are being
seen.
Shelley Steva saw a SNOWY OWL at Sherack in Polk County along CR 21 on
December 3. Sandy Aubol reports that the EASTERN TOWHEE, along with a
HARRIS'S SPARROW and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continue to be seen in her
yard in East Grand Forks. At Climax, Karen Suldahl saw a PILEATED
WOODPECKER on December 2.
Mel Bennefeld reported a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD on the northern edge of
Buffalo River State Park in Clay County on November 30.
Joel Arndt in Becker County reported a GREAT HORNED OWL near Floyd Lake
on December 3, and on the 5th, he saw a NORTHERN CARDINAL there.
From Hubbard County, Marshall Howe reported a PINE SISKIN near Dorset
and 40 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS seen by John Weber at Nevis on December 1. On
December 4, Marshall saw a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE , DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and
PURPLE FINCH at Dorset on December 4. There were CEDAR WAXWINGS and PINE
SISKINS at Park Rapids on December 5.
In Otter Tail County, Alma Ronningen reported that a RUFFED GROUSE has
been visiting her yard, and other species there today included HARRIS'S
SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, and a COMMON GRACKLE.
