This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Friday October 18th, 2013.
Kim Eckert reported a SPRAGUE'S PIPIT today from Cottonwood County. The
bird was four-tenths of a mile west of the Jeffer's Petroglyphs, in a
mowed part of the Rock Ridge SNA and on the north side of the road. Kim
also reported a SURF SCOTER at the Mountain Lake sewage ponds in
Cottonwood County.
On the 17th, John Weimholt reported a male EURASIAN WIGEON at the small
pond situated on the southeast corner of White Bear Avenue and Suburban
Avenue in St. Paul, Ramsey County. This is just south of I-94 in the
Battle Creek neighborhood.
On the 18th, Chad Heins found a late AMERICAN AVOCET in Nicollet County,
on Duck Lake's North Unit of the Swan Lake WMA.
And a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was back at the Ann Lake campground in
Sherburne County on the 17th. Other new reports of fall migrants include
TUNDRA SWAN, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, NORTHERN SHRIKE, SNOW BUNTING, SPOTTED
TOWHEE, and DARK-EYED JUNCO.
