This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, August 13,
2015 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You
may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

This has been a hot week, full of storms in the northwest. Most folks in
the northwest are dealing with damaged trees and homes, particularly in
the northern part of the area.

Ron Erpelding and Herb Dingmann found 3-4 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS in
the area of Roseau County that was burned in the forest fire earlier
this summer. The area is northeast of Hayes Lake State Park along the
Thompson Forest Road 6-7 miles northeast of the Hayes Lake SP entrance.

Here in Pennington County this week we have many juvenile EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS in the yard along with several species of young woodpeckers
including RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, HAIRY
WOODPECKER, and DOWNY WOODPECKER.

In Polk County, Sandy Aubol was birding at the East Grand Forks Greenway
on August 10 where she found two RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, a PILEATED
WOODPECKER, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, MERLIN, NASHVILLE WARBLER, INDIGO
BUNTING, and juvenile EASTERN BLUEBIRDS.

From Becker County, Linda Schumann reported CEDAR WAXWINGS at Rainbow
Resort northeast of Detroit Lakes on August 12.

Joel Groebner observed CEDAR WAXWINGS at La Salle SRA in Hubbard County
on August 6.

Thanks to Joel Groebner, Linda Schumann, Herb Dingmann and Ron
Erpelding, and Sandy Aubol for their reports.

Please report bird sightings to Jeanie Joppru by email, no later than
Thursday each week, at [log in to unmask] OR call the Detroit Lakes
Chamber's toll free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders
please call 847-9202. Please include the county where the sighting took
place. The next scheduled update of this report is Thursday, August 20,
2015.
