This is the Minnesota Birding Report for December 9th, 2010.

On December 8th, Dave Sovereign reported a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE at
the east end of Lake Gervais, in north St. Paul, Ramsey County.

A GREAT GRAY OWL was found on the 9th by Sparky Stensaas in the Sax-Zim
Bog area of St. Louis County, along McDavitt Road, about three and a
half miles north of Sax Road. Jeremy Ridlbauer saw a NORTHERN HAWK OWL
on the 7th in Cook County along state highway 61, one and a half miles
east of the Naniboujou Lodge. Katie Haws saw two NORTHERN HAWK OWLS
along state highway 72 in Lake of the Woods County on December 8th. One
was between mile markers 49 and 50, the other was about ten miles south
of the town of Baudette.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was reported by Bill Williams on the 6th at Point
Douglas Park in Washington County.

On the 5th, Erik Collins found an adult ICELAND GULL at the Kaposia
Landing in South St. Paul, Dakota County.

On December 6th, Dan Kahl reported a CAROLINA WREN at a feeder at the
Mount Olivet Conference and Retreat Center in Farmington, Dakota County.

A flock of about a hundred BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was in Duluth on the 4th at
East Arrowhead Road and Vermilion Road. Smaller flocks have been moving
around most of the state's northern counties and have been seen as far
south as Mounds View, Ramsey County and as far west as Battle Lake,
Otter Tail County. And COMMON REDPOLLS have been reported as far south
as Woodbury, Washington County.
