One of yesterday's posts mentioned that the boreal owl is considered a
threatened species in MN. While this may be an accuarate informal description
of the species' status, it is not on Minnesota's list of Endangered, Threatened,
and Special Concern Species. However, it is a proposed species of special
concern under a rulemaking process now underway. Those interested in
learning about and commenting on the proposed change in the boreal owl's
(and other bird species') status can go to
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ets/rulesrevision.html for more information. If
you're interested, act now, because comments will only be accepted until
4:30pm this Wednesday, and the last time this list was updated was 1996.
