The Root River is flooding near Hokah, Minnesota and creating some amazing shorebird habitat. Where CR 26 crosses the Root River, there is a short road leading to a boat launch and a large utility shed. From this road you can look west into a flooded field and see hundreds (1000s?) of Yellowlegs, numerous Ring-billed and Bonaparte's Gulls, numerous ducks and two White-faced Ibis. When I first saw the birds around 8:30AM, they were close enough to easily see the white facial border. I checked on the birds at around 10AM, and they were actively feeding further out.
