This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, June 2,

The rainy, windy weather this week appears to have suppressed the
birding activities, and also the birds have been hard to locate in the
waving trees. The whole region is wet, and grass is growing very fast.
All the early flowers are blooming, and most of the migration appears to
be over.
Shawn Conrad found a CONNECTICUT WARBLER singing north of Norris Camp in
Lake of the Woods County on May 25.
At the Greenbush wastewater treatment ponds, he found a few DUNLIN,
MARBLED GODWIT, RUDDY TURNSTONE, and WILSON'S PHALAROPES.
In Kittson County on May 26, Shawn found SHARP-TAILED GROUSE, ORCHARD
ORIOLE, and LONG-EARED OWL. Shelley Steva and I were fortunate to find a
WHIMBREL in a muddy field along US 75 south of St. Vincent. As we were
trying to get a photo, the bird flew, and could not be relocated. Other
interesting species found in Kittson County on May 29 were a first year
HERRING GULL and at the gravel pit south of Lake Bronson a CASPIAN TERN.
At Agassiz NWR in Marshall County, Shawn Conrad found YELLOW-BELLIED
FLYCATCHER and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, and several species of warbler.
Diana Morkassel near Warren reported BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in the crabapple
trees on May 31. Other species seen in the county included INDIGO
BUNTING and ORCHARD ORIOLE.
On May 26, Shawn Conrad found MARBLED GODWITS and 6 WESTERN GREBES at
the Thief River Falls wastewater treatment ponds. On June 1, three
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS flew over our property east of the city.
At East Grand Forks, Polk County on May 26, Shawn found RED-HEADED
WOODPECKER, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, and WESTERN KINGBIRD. Sandy Aubol
reported COMMON NIGHTHAWK and 25 CEDAR WAXWINGS in East Grand Forks on
May 31. Theresa Helgeson saw an INDIGO BUNTING in Lowell Township on May
29.
Marshall Howe reported EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, BLUE-HEADED VIREO,
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and many species of warbler in Hubbard County on
May 31. Three COMMON MERGANSERS were seen at Little Sand Lake that day.
