Yesterday, April 4, my MN Birding Weekends group found at least 2 Smith's (and possibly as many as 20+) on the E side of Chen Bay WMA, located S of Lincoln CR 13 about 2 mi E of Hwy 75. This WMA also has extensive mudflats which could be good in the coming weeks, although only a few Baird's and Pectorals were present yesterday.
Relatively few migrating geese were still migrating through Lincoln, Lyon, and Redwood, the 3 counties we birded on April 3-4-5, with Cackling (1) and Ross's (15) found only at Lake Stay in Arco, Lincoln Co.
Also of note was an imm Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk in Redwood Co on April 2 and 3 by the Lower Sioux Community sewage ponds, 3 mi E of the casino.
