This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, September

Slowly we are slipping into fall in the northwest. The colors are
gradually changing with yellows and a few reds now showing up. Migration
is also picking up. Warblers are being reported from the Red River
Valley, and many soaring hawks can be seen in the skies.
From Grant County, Charlene Nelson reported a NASHVILLE WARBLER on
September 12, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, and DARK-EYED
JUNCO on the 18th, and on September 23rd she saw a BROWN CREEPER, and
many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
Alma Ronningen in Otter Tail County reported that the TRUMPETER SWANS
nearby her place raised 6 cygnets this summer, and the OSPREY pair had
two young. On September 24 she saw a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH at her yard
near Elbow Lake.
From Polk County, Sandy Aubol in East Grand Forks, reported
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, BROWN CREEPER, WINTER WREN, HARRIS'S SPARROW, FOX
SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, PALM WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and PINE
SISKIN. A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW appeared in her yard on September 23.
Here in Pennington County near Thief River Falls, there were NASHVILLE
WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, TENNESSEE WARBLER, and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER
on September 16. A COOPER'S HAWK came to hunt in the yard on September
17. Today we were visited by 25-30 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and a small
wave of migrating YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS that also included a couple of
NASHVILLE WARBLERS came to catch flying insects in the oak trees. We
also had two DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and a group of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS could be
heard in the neighborhood.
