This is the Duluth Birding Report for February 11th, 2010 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was found in Lake County on the 6th by Chad
Heins and others at the Knife River marina. They saw GREAT BLACK-BACKED
GULL, ICELAND GULL, and THAYER'S GULL on the 6th at Canal Park in
Duluth, and GLAUCOUS GULLS at Park Point.

On the evening of the 5th Chad's group heard a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL on
the north end of the Admiral Road (CR 788) in the Sax-Zim Bog. They saw
a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER along the McDavitt Road (CR 233) about 2 miles
north of the Sax Road (CR 28), and a HOARY REDPOLL at the feeders 2.4
miles north of the Sax Road. Mike Hendrickson saw a HOARY REDPOLL on the
6th near the Arkola Road (CR 52) feeders east of Owl Avenue. EVENING
GROSBEAKS are being seen at the Morse feeders on the Blue Spruce Road, 1
mile north of CR 133. GREAT GRAY OWLS and NORTHERN HAWK OWLS are still
being seen at the Sax-Zim Bog.

Warren Nelson and Butch Ukura found a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on the 9th
in Aitkin County on the Pietz's Road about 1 mile north of CR 18. They
found a HOARY REDPOLL about 0.5 mile south of the town of Swatara on CR
29. Warren found a female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on the 4th along CR 1,
7.3 miles north of the diversion ditch bridge, and 200 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
in Aitkin on the 5th between 4th Street NW and 5th Street NW. Warren
also has been reporting GREAT GRAY OWLS along CR 18 during the past
week. Cindy Risen had a flock of about 50 EVENING GROSBEAKS on the 6th
and 7th at her feeders near Tamarack.

Deb and Steve Falkowski are still seeing small flocks of BOHEMIAN
WAXWINGS in Virginia near Silver Lake.
