Jim Otto and I birded various areas in Aitkin County today.  Highlights:
Northern Hawk Owl - west side of hwy 169 at county hwy 18.
Great Gray Owls - one at county 18 - 320th Pl (Pietz's Rd) intersection - 9:00 am.
Second Great Gray observed on county 18, 0.6 miles west of 320th Pl. - 9:30 am.
White-winged Crossbills - numerous on the trail opposite 320th Pl.
Common Redpolls - a few along county 18.
Gray Jays - two on county 18, where the spruce/tamarack bog begins travelling east from 169.
Finally, a flock of approx. 100 Sandhill cranes were observed travelling southeast over state highway 47 at the Isanti/Anoka county line, they were accompanied by smaller "Vs" of Canada Geese.
