This is the Duluth Birding Report for January 27th, 2010 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Three GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen by Peder Svingen on the 23rd at
Canal Park in Duluth. Mike Hendrickson saw an ICELAND GULL, at least
four GLAUCOUS GULLS, and three GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS on the 21st at
the Superior landfill. Chris Edwardson reported a BROWN THRASHER on the
25th and 26th near Woodcrest Drive off Glenwood Street in east Duluth.

Mike Hendrickson saw a SPRUCE GROUSE along Lake County Road 2, about a
mile north of the Sand River. Mike also relocated the VARIED THRUSH in
Ely along Main Street across from the Pillow Rock historical marker.
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were also seen at the same location and EVENING
GROSBEAKS were seen in nearby Winton.

Observers continue to report GREAT GRAY OWLS and NORTHERN HAWK OWLS from
the Sax-Zim Bog, as recently as the 23rd. BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS are
still being seen along the McDavitt Road (CR 233), especially along the
snowshoe trail on the east side of the road about 2.6 miles north of the
Sax Road (CR 28).
