This is the Duluth Birding Report for November 7th, 2013 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found by Cindy Edwardson and others on the
3rd in Grand Marais at 1st Street and 5th Avenue. Craig Mandel saw a
SPRUCE GROUSE along the Gunflint Trail just south of the Lima Mountain
Road. WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and BLACK SCOTERS were seen in the Grand
Marais harbor and at Taconite Harbor in Cook County on the 3rd and 4th.

The juvenile ROSS'S GOOSE at the Two Harbors golf course was seen as
recently as the 5th. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER and a RED-BELLIED
WOODPECKER have been seen as recently as the 2nd at 4th Avenue and 3rd
Street in Two Harbors. Kim Eckert saw a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on the
2nd at the Iona’s Beach Twin Points boat launch, three miles northeast
of the Gooseberry River.

A female LONG-TAILED DUCK continues to be seen at the McQuade Road boat
launch northeast of Duluth. Up to seven THAYERS'S GULLS, a LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL, and two GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS continue to be
reported at Canal Park and on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry.
A WESTERN GREBE was photographed by Clinton Neinhaus on the 3rd on the
Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. A BLACK SCOTER and a female RUDDY
DUCK were reported on the 2nd by several observers at the Park Point
Rowing Club.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was found on the 4th by Dave Schimpf along Brainerd
Avenue in Duluth and another was found on the 3rd by Doug Kieser along
the Gunflint Trail about a mile north of Grand Marais.
