Craig Mandel and I were able to relocate 3 of the Common Moorhens at the Big Bluesteam marsh on the Sherburne NWR Prairie Wildlife Auto Tour. 2 were adults, while another more secretive one was likely a juvenile. We viewed them with a spotting scope from the viewing platform as you approach the marsh. The birds vocalized a bit, too.
We tried for the Cerulean Warbler reported earlier today by Al Schirmacher, with no luck. We didn't hear the Olive-sided Flycatcher, neither. This was between 5:00 and 5:30, so maybe it was just too late in the day for these songsters.
Other highlights we had were Willow Flycatcher, Red-headed Woodpecker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Eastern Towhee, Lark Sparrow, and Grasshopper Sparrow. The black flies and gnats were terrible.
Good birding,
