I hadn't seen the previously posted Hoary Redpoll since Monday, but just moments ago noticed the bird is back. Apparently the weather has brought the bird back in.



A few people requested to see a photo, and Jim Mattsson has included one in the Showcase section on the MOU website. As you scroll down the photos, Shawn Zierman has a photo of a Common Redpoll just before it, which makes for a nice comparison. The short, stubby bill and diffuse side streaks are obvious, and the clean unstreaked looking undertail coverts show well. The one central streak can be seen on the left side edge of the undertail coverts, if you study the photo carefully. As this is a front view, the unstreaked white rump isn't shown.
