Reluctantly, spring is slowly coming - we hope. Temperatures are still
low, but the powerful March sun is making its presence known as the snow
banks are shrinking ever so slightly. More and more species of birds are
being reported , especially in the southern part of the region.

Zeann Linder was in Marshall County on March 22 and saw a ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK along MN 1 east of Warren.

Tonight in Pennington County a few miles west of the city, Zeann heard
the unmistakable sound of a SANDHILL CRANE, the first reported here this
season.

Sandy Aubol in East Grand Forks , Polk County, reported on March 21,
that she saw a flock of at least 25 CEDAR WAXWINGS with one BOHEMIAN
WAXWING among them in the area of her yard. MERLINS are being seen
regularly in East Grand Forks.

A GREAT EGRET, the first reported this year was seen in Detroit Lakes in
Becker County by Beau Shroyer on March 27.

Gary and Marion Otnes reported a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD under their feeder
in Otter Tail County on March 22. Last week Roland Jordahl in Pelican
Rapids reported BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN HARRIER, RED-TAILED HAWK, AMERICAN
KESTREL, GREAT HORNED OWL, and AMERICAN ROBIN. Alma Ronningen in Dent
reported on March 23, AMERICAN ROBIN, 8 CEDAR WAXWINGS,and 45 RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS. One RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen in the last few days. Nearby,
she saw NORTHERN HARRIER , and several BALD EAGLES.

In and around Lake Carlos SP in Douglas County, Benjamin Eckhoff this
week reported BALD EAGLE at the dam at the park on March 24. On March
26, he saw NORTHERN HARRIER, AMERICAN KESTREL, RED-TAILED HAWK, and
WESTERN MEADOWLARK. On the 27th, at the park were DARK-EYED JUNCO and
PURPLE FINCH.

Thanks to Alma Ronningen, Benjamin Eckhoff, Beau Shroyer, Gary and
Marion Otnes, Roland Jordahl, Sandy Aubol, and Zeann Linder for their
reports.
