Migration is picking up in the northwest now with the coming of warmer
weather, and some unfortunate migrants chose to arrive the day it was
only 22 degrees last Friday morning with a strong cold wind. Most
counties are reporting all the swallows, an increasing number of
warblers, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD, and where there is a little habitat, a smattering of
shorebirds. There seems to have been an influx of BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS
this week as several observers reported them and I had several in my
yard one day .

At the Osakis WTP in Douglas County, Andy Nyhus found a WHITE-WINGED
SCOTER on May 16.

A SUMMER TANAGER was reported by Kim Fisette at Reames Lake in Otter
Tail County. Dan and Sandy Thimgan reported WARBLING VIREO, BANK
SWALLOW, and YELLOW WARBLER on May 15; YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, BARN
SWALLOW, and RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD on May 16, GREAT-CRESTED
FLYCATCHER , RED-EYED VIREO, and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT on May 17, GREEN
HERON and SORA on May 18, and RED-SHOULDERED HAWK on May 18.

Marshall Howe in Hubbard County observed SWAINSON'S THRUSH, EASTERN
TOWHEE, AMERICAN REDSTART, and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT on May 15,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, WILSON’S WARBLER, and ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK on May 16, GREEN HERON, RED-EYED VIREO, WARBLING VIREO,
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, and CAPE MAY WARBLER on May 17,
and MOURNING WARBLER on May 18.

Dave and Betty Hochhalter in Detroit Lakes, Becker County reported HOUSE
WREN, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, SCARLET TANAGER, NORTHERN CARDINAL,
EASTERN BLUEBIRD, and BALTIMORE ORIOLE on May 15.

Paul Budde observed both TUNDRA SWANS and TRUMPETER SWANS at the rice
paddies along the Clearwater River in both Red Lake and Polk Counties.
In Polk County, he found a ROSS'S GOOSE at the Brandt-Angus impoundment,
and also HUDSONIAN GODWIT, DUNLIN, and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS. Russ
Wilber found an EASTERN BLUEBIRD in East Grand Forks on May 18.

In Red Lake County, Shelley Steva saw HOODED MERGANSER, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER, HOUSE WREN, and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER on May 13. On May 15,
Howard Towle found a WILLET at the rice paddy at 150 St and 350th Ave.
GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS were found in Gentilly township. A SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER was seen in a flooded quarry in Gentilly township. WILSON'S
PHALAROPES were observed at the Red Lake Falls WTP.

Shelley Steva observed a MERLIN and LESSER YELLOWLEGS in Pennington
County on May 13. This week at my home, a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD
arrived on May 14, a pair of INDIGO BUNTINGS briefly visited on May 15,
