This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Friday, November 24,
2017 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You
may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

Mild weather has returned to the northwest this week, and most of our
snow is now gone. Today, we are getting rain, so who knows what the
roads will be like early on any of the forthcoming days. Bird activity
has been quiet except for the many common redpolls, dark-eyed juncos and
winter residents here in the north west.

In Beltrami County, the NORTHERN HAWK OWL along MN 72 and the VARIED
THRUSH at Mary Lou Marchand's feeder in Bemidji reported last week were
observed by Liz Harper on November 18.

Sandy Aubol continues to report a RED CROSSBILL in her yard in Polk
County as of November 21. A FOX SPARROW has also been there recently. A
SNOWY OWL in southern Polk County was reported by Leon Thoreson on
November 19. He also saw three Lapland longspurs and one snow bunting
near Climax. A rusty blackbird was reported by Bruce Flaig in his yard
in southern Polk County on November 18.

From Hubbard County, Marshall Howe reported a few COMMON REDPOLLS, and
up to 8 PINE GROSBEAKS this week.

Please report bird sightings to Jeanie Joppru by email, no later than
Thursday each week, at [log in to unmask] OR call the Detroit Lakes
Chamber's toll free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders
please call 847-9202. Please include the county where the sighting took
place. The next scheduled update of this report is Thursday, December 7,
2017
