The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences invites applications for
an interim laboratory specialist for the Electron Microbeam Analysis
Laboratory (EMAL). The position has an anticipated start date of May 15,
2017.
The successful applicant may choose to be interviewed for the permanent
position, which will be either 100% staff, requiring a minimum of BS
degree, or a combination 75% staff and 25% research scientist, requiring a
PhD degree. The interim position is 100% staff, requiring a minimum of a
B.S. degree, and applicants with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are strongly
encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will manage the highly productive central campus
EMAL facility of the University of Michigan. Major instruments in the
laboratory include: electron microprobe, FE-SEM, and XRDs. Duration of
appointment will be determined by the needs of the applicant and

a laboratory manager/specialist/research scientist for the Electron
Microbeam Analysis Laboratory (EMAL).
We seek applicants with expertise in electron microbeam techniques and with
research interests in Earth and environmental sciences. The position can be
either 100% staff, requiring at minimum a BS degree or a combination 75%
staff and 25% research scientist, requiring a PhD degree.
The successful candidate will manage the highly productive EMAL facility on
the central campus of the University of Michigan. Major instruments in the
laboratory include: electron microprobe, FE-SEM, and XRDs. The appointed
rank in the research scientist track (Assistant Research Scientist,
Associate Research Scientist, Research Scientist) will depend on the
qualifications of the individual. Salary will be commensurate with
experience and academic credentials.
