Dear John, dear microprobers,

First and foremost, thank YOU very much, John Fournelle, for taking care of this email list and ensuring it is still working! It has been of utmost importance to my career throughout the years (since ~ 2009, but I know it has been running for much much longer)!

Just throwing an idea here… As maybe some of you do, I am subscribed to “other” probe email listing that is managed by Anette von der Handt in Minneapolis (JEOL-Focused Probe Users List [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>; CC’d on this thread). If the same problem is happening at UMN, maybe the force could be unified, and we could just have two “simple” google or whatever emailing lists with name such as “CAMECA-user” (or the one you choose, John, after all the “SX50-users” has an historical value!) and “JEOL-user”, and even a more global “EPMA-user” group… After all, a problem with one can be a problem with the other, too, and even if I’m now a J-user, I still low to read the conversation on the SX-50 list :)

Take care of yourself and your close relatives & friends, and be a super probe-hero: wear a mask!

Our university, like many others(?), is changing how it handles electronic communications and software. I believe this list now is using the 3rd different software from what it started with back around 1993 or so (times flies).
The university in all its wisdom (?) is now moving its handling of lists to “Google Groups”, and it should happen in the next day or so.

The new list will be called <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>> and should presumably operate in a similar manner as before.

I am told there will be archiving capability--assuming I remember to turn it on ;)

I have been told that the “old” archives cannot be migrated to the new structure; however, I have had a download of the current archive and hope to be able to find a way to publish this archive as well as older ones I have on file somewhere. There is much valuable (still) information, at least for some of us.

There are 240 subscribers (nominally) to this list, FYI.
