Hi there,
I’ve made an excel sheet that converts different coordinates with the help of two references.
Unfortunately it does not account for the change in z-direction.
This sheet is made for 4 samples.
It is important to use the same sample code for the references and further down for the individual spots (see red names in excel), otherwise it will not show the result. You fill the new references from the new instrument into the corresponding green fields.
What this excel does is basically checking if the references have been rotated and then converting that rotation into a matrix, with which it recalculates the individual point positions. Then it compares, which “shifting vectors” for ref1 and ref2 are the same within a small error, and shows this results in the START-tab. I included a little coordinate system to check that all went fine. The margin of error for the shift-vector can be adjusted in the “calculation”-tab (I marked it yellow).
To get around the problem to recognize whether the rotation was larger than 180 degrees I had to implement a second calculation, which is basically the first+180 for the matrix.
This sheet works fine for all sorts of coordinate system conversion (JEOL to CAMECA and other SEM instruments like Hitachi, etc.) and for both round mounts and thin/thick sections, regardless of clockwise or anticlockwise rotation.
I know this is not what you want, but maybe it helps the one or another user out there. 😊
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.
Kind regards and greetings from the cold North!

Subject: [PROBEUSERS] Position file (*.pos) flags
Hi All, I am currently setting up a workflow which will generate a JEOL microprobe software (EPMA JXA_8530F+) *.pos file so that I can import analysis points from an external source (similar to that produced by the specimen navigator software), this works fine apart from one thing. I would like to set the auto focus to "on" for each point and set the spot size to a particular size. Are there any flags that can be set within the *.pos file to do this. The alternative is to drive to each point and manually set this for each point, which in a 400 point file will be tedious. (I would also be interested in other options available that can be set within this file format). Please note I am only running the supplied JEOL software.
Thanks John Spratt
