Senior Research Fellow in Microanalysis
Department of Earth Sciences, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 10: ?51,702 - ?59,914 with a discretionary range to ?65,454 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Senior Research Fellow in Microanalysis in
the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. The
postholder will lead research in microanalysis and manage the Department?s
microanalysis facility, taking responsibility for the future strategic
direction of microanalysis within the department. The postholder will be a
recognised authority in their field, and provide intellectual guidance more
widely for the use of microanalysis within the department and beyond.

The postholder will be responsible for the management of the Microanalysis
Small Research Facility (SRF), presently hosting a SEM and an electron
microprobe (both field-emission-gun). They will have responsibility for
finances of the facility and ensuring data is of the highest standard
possible. They will also conduct and publish their own high-quality
research, and train/teach others in the use of micro analytical
instruments, and the use of resulting data. They may also undertake some
undergraduate or graduate teaching. Candidates will have a PhD in the earth
sciences, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, and have significant
post-qualification research experience, be a recognised international
authority in microanalysis in earth sciences with a high level of expertise
in SEM and electron-probe instrumentation, experience in supervising
students and managing staff, proven skills in the laboratory and an ability
to lead an independent research programme. Knowledge and/or experience in
management of a laboratory facility is desirable, but not essential.
