POSITION: CALIFORNIA FAMILY IMPACT SEMINAR DIRECTOR

The California Research Bureau in the California State Library is recruiting
for a highly qualified individual in the area of family policy, for the
position of Director of the California Family Policy Seminar. This position
is responsible for a well regarded research-based family policy program in
the State Capitol. The position is civil service, and is classified as a
Research Program Specialist I or II, with a salary range of $3770-4994 a
month.

The State Library will be administering an open supplemental examination by
mail at the end of July, from which a list of eligible candidates will be
developed. To be considered for this position, the applicant must take and
pass this exam.

To apply, complete a state employment application, and mail it to:
         California State Library
         Human Resources
         Library & Courts Building I
         914 Capitol Mall, Room 215
         Sacramento, CA 95814.
Please include a cover letter stating an interest in the position and a
desire to take the July exam. (The employment application form is available
on the Internet at http://www.spb.ca.gov/jobsgen/app.htm)

In order to qualify for the exam, the applicant must have:
-- Either one year of state service at a position comparable to RPS I,
-- OR 4 years of progressively responsible technical research
experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation of
data (a doctoral degree counts for 2 years, a masters degree counts for 1
year);
-- AND a college degree, including 6 semester hours in statistics.

This is a great job for the person who is stimulated by the constant
learning curve associated with the wide range of issues and topics that make
up the field of family policy. The position entails devising strategies for
effectively communicating information to key state officials in a
productive, policy-relevant manner. In addition to an excellent public
policy research background, the ideal applicant will have some legislative
experience and familiarity with the foundation community.
