Thanks for this.  This is exactly the sort of thing I hoped would start 
to pop up on the wiki.

I looked over it quickly and it looked good.  I will try to go over it 
more closely later, too.

This can be very helpful.  For example, if you have a PHP application, 
then depending on how your application uses authentication, it might 
make sense to use the Shibboleth SP (and pull attributes from 
environment variables) or simpleSAMLphp for more direct integration.
