Mephistos Graduate Student Conference
for the History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Science

University of Notre Dame
March 30 thru April 1, 2001

Abstracts due January 15, 2001 -- Travel Grants Available

Founded by history of science graduate students in 1981, the Mephistos
graduate student conference fosters rich discussions in a relaxed
atmosphere among graduate students in history, philosophy, and sociology of
science and related disciplines.

Visit http://www.nd.edu/~meph2001 to learn about the various genres of
presentations we welcome, including:

* Presentation of Research: Present a paper in the history, philosophy, or
sociology of science, or a related discipline. Papers may cover any era,
from the ancient period to the present day, and any science-related topic,
including medicine and technology. We welcome papers concerning the
relations between religion/theology and science, medicine, or technology.

* Working Session: Submit a dissertation chapter to the conference for open
discussion. The chapter will be pre-circulated, via the Internet, to all
participants about a month before the conference. At the conference,
participants will provide the writer with feedback during a workshop
session devoted especially to that writer's chapter. (To ensure sufficient
feedback from participants, the conference committee will accept no more
than four working sessions.)

The Program Committee will contact applicants as to acceptance and travel
grant awards by February 15, 2001.
