 Medical Student Organization Awarded Contract to Focus on Public Health
(AMSA)

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the largest, independent
medical student organization representing 35,000 members, received $2.5
million in funding to provide public health leadership programs for primary
care medical and dental residents. The contract, awarded by the Bureau of
Health Professions Division of Medicine and Dentistry, a division of The
Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services
Administration, allows AMSA to sponsor programs designed to address
specific
topics such as disaster management, patient safety, the underserved, global
public health, and Healthy People 2010, the federal government's document
outlining a set of health objectives for the nation to achieve through the
year 2010.
