This a long the 2nd year classroom hallway towards Harvard st doors and
near the elevators.
This is an important meeting because we will be discussing the structure
of the committees and the leadership of AMSA. Each committee with 2-3
leaders is an entity on its own, working with other student groups
across the university.
Global health committee with Physician for Human Rights (PHR)
Bioethics/Pharmfree committee with Students Committee on Bioethics
(SCOB).
Harambe/Diversity in Med Committee with SNMA
Health Care for All with Physicians for a National Health Program
(PNHP).
Complimentary Alternative Med with Physician Well-Being/Dean
Vercellotti.
As one of the leaders of your committee, you get help from other student
groups, from all the AMSA members, and from all the AMSA officers like
Josh and me. That means you are not a lone on leadership. The reason
why we decided to have many leaders for each committee is to give
students a sense of responsibility, but not burden you with all the
responsibility. The co-presidents will do most of the grunt work this
semester as all the leadership begins to learn their issues and build
their leadership skills.
If you feel that don't have enough experience on a certain topic, but
you want to take leadership on that topic, we encourage you to still
become a leader. Josh and I are here to help you become leaders and to
learn about social justice issues. Your inexperience might be a bonus
because then you won't have any misinformation or biases.
Committee leader responsibilities:
1. Delegate responsibility and organize committee meetings
2. Stay up to date on your issues
3. Go to the kickass National Conference that will most likely be
fully funded
4. Bring enthusiasm and create new ideas
5. Do it grassroots
6. Legislative Action. We'll teach you how to do this one.
If you have no absolute interest in leadership, but still want to be
part of AMSA, we welcome you to the meeting. Active members are just as
important as the leaders. We need your support to make change. It's
our time to shine.
