Harlow, below are all the records of Summer Tanager in our database from
2000 through today that were observed between 1 Sep and 31 Dec. (Records
from the early 2000s will be spotty.) I'll leave it for others to speculate
on migration paterns that bring these birds northwards.

wing bars. Gave distinctive descending tchuk, tchuk, tchuk, tchuk call 4x.

Subject: [mou-net] RFI Summer Tanager Fall/Winter
Wisconsin birders have found three November Summer Tanagers. All may be
females. My efforts to search the archives have met with frustration. So,
I'll just inquire.
Has MN found these out-of-range and
late season birds in recent years? Have you any conclusions about the
reason for this? With the known nesting areas well south into Illinois,
post-breeding dispersal seems unlikely. Are these birds directionally
challenged? They should be in Mexico and points south. h
