Just had a phoned in report from an area observer of a possible gray morph
Gyrfalcon just south of Mille Lacs CR 23, in the agricultural fields 3-4
miles west of Foreston.
We discussed the differences between a Gyr and a Gos, but he did note the
"mustache" (35-40 feet away at one point), barring and powerful falcon-like
appearance.
I llive about ten miles from this location, and will keep my eyes open - but
wanted to post a heads-up in case other birders are in the area.
(This is not the first report I've heard in Mille Lacs County during my six
winters here - have tended to mentally dismiss them as Goshawks or
Peregrines - perhaps I need to pay closer attention?)
Good birding.
