Guiding a great group from southern Iowa up in the Sax-Zim Bog today.
 
Snowy Owl at 7:15 am between Duluth Int'l Airport and the Correctional Facility on Stebner [only 1/2 mile from 53] On a telephone pole before dawn. New location
 
7:45 am in Sax-Zim and it is Minus 37 to Minus 41 (according to locals)...Ice fog forms in low spots.
 
2 Great Gray Owls [2.5  to 3.5 miles N of Sax Rd on McDavitt] 9am
1 N Hawk Owl [Sax Rd (CR28) and CR 7) Right next to the road today.
1 N Hawk Owl [on Owl Avenue! right at where road bends to the west at deer rib feeder/ditch] 3pm New location
 
1 Sharp-tailed Grouse flying across Sax Rd near CR7
2 Boreal Chickadees at deer rib feeder on Admiral
White-winged Crossbills along Lake Nichols Rd 1 mile W of 53
2 Black-backed Woodpeckers on E side of McDavitt at previously reported location (look for trails into Tamarack woods)
Evening Grosbeaks at Morses feeder on Blue Spruce.
Also 1 N Shrike, many Pine Grosbeaks, 10 Gray Jays, 2 Bald Eagles.
It eventually got up to 9 degrees...above! A 50 degree temperature swing.
