From what I heard the Buff-breasted spent most of the day near the south end
of the drying lake bed, pretty much out in the open. Then just before I
arrived late in the afternoon a Coopers Hawk stired things up and it could
not be found. On my way out Eric Collins showed me a small trail that
allows good access to the north end of the lake bed and that was where the
Buff-breasted had moved to.
Park in the parking lot and take the main trail. Curve right almost
immediately. About the time the woods start to thin on your right, look for
a small downhill trail on the left side of the trail. Follow this down hill
and you will see the mud flats. Moving to the left will allow a very good
overlook. If the bird is not here then follow the main trail following
Chucks original directions below to where it was earlier today.
