I was working in a white spruce stand west of the Sawbill Trail in Cook
County on Tuesday when a small flock of White-winged Crossbills flew over
and finally landed nearby when I pished. I heard them in the area for maybe
a half hour after that. White-winged Crossbills in August...what a treat!

Shortly after, I was hiking out through some thick brush and a small bird
landed on a tree in front of me. It was a male Black-throated Blue
Warbler!

I doubt anyone would want to thrash through the brush to get to either
location, but it's cool knowing that these two species were in the same
vicinity in mid-August.
