Just want to add a couple things to Dave and Lars Benson's list. Butch 

Ukura and I bumped into them and we exchanged cell phone numbers . A 

little while later, they called to say they had just seen an owl.. We 

got there a few minutes later (about 8:15 a.m., 6 tenths of a mile west 

of Pietz's Road.and found 2 GREAT GRAY OWLS, one on a fence post right 

beside the road, the other about sixty to seventy feet behind it. As we 

pulled up, the owl on the post dropped down and caught a meadow vole, 

returning to the post right beside the car.It then flew to a tree about  

forty  to fifty feet away. As it landed, the second owl flew over and 

landed on the other owl and they began mating. And, yes, I am ashamed to 

say that we both watched. This is not the right tiime of the year for 

GGO's to be mating !!!! The female then flew back to the post by the car 

and swallowed the vole. After a few minutes, they flew a short distance 

into the woods. Other birds that we saw today: 6 PINE GROSBEAKS, 200 to 

300 COMMON REDPOLLS,  a GRAY JAY, 2 TREE SPARROWS, 30 ROUGH-LEGGED 

HAWKS, 6 BALD EAGLES, but alas, no hawk owls.   Warren Nelson
