While birding with Joel Schmidt this morning in northern Renville county, we observed an apparent family group of blue grosbeaks. Three different birds were observed: an adult male, a subadult male, and a female.
Birds were observed approximately 2 miles west of Olivia, at the intersection of 310th St and 830th Ave. This intersection is about 1/4 mile N of Hwy 212. Birds were observed on the NW and NE side of this intersection, at both the brush site and on the fencing of the XCEL Energy Troy Switching Substation.
