Today we were pulling docks and boats at the cabin and were treated to a
Surf Scoter resting on this small 700 acre lake. I was able to see the
bird within 50 feet (no optics but sun at back) - noted the heavy bill and
vertical white marking at base of bill. facial pattern with two white
patches clearly visible on bird in flight - no white in wings.

The bird spent the entire afternoon resting on the southern 1/3 of the main
lake only moving when fisherman would approach too closely. First seen at
2:00 pm last seen at about 6:30 (last time I looked).
