Yesterday Wednesday December 19 I observed the Varied Thrush found on the Duluth CBC 12/15. It was in a crabapple tree 4 or 5 houses west of the intersection of 47th Ave E and Oakley Street in the Lakeside neighborhood. The tree is right next to the road and the bird was tolerant of vehicles. Later after work I located the Northern Hawk Owl that was reported along Rice Lake Road. The bird was perched atop an aspen tree on the east side of the road north of the airport road and south of the road to the old landfill. The road is very busy and shoulders are not too wide so caution advised. Don Kienholz
