Erika and I are just back from the Big Woods State Park. We saw at least 8 and possibly a dozen Red-headed Woodpeckers around the main parking lot and across the county road by the headquarters. They were noisy. On Saturday we saw a Greater Yellowlegs up to its belly feeding in a riffle of the Cannon River in the Carleton College Arboretum. The bird was actively fishing in the fashion of an egret, a behavior reported in the literature, but which I have never seen.
