Along the North Shoe, scenic 61 northeast of Duluth, John and I spotted
a Snowy Owl, just beyond the Lakewood Pumping Station (Duluth water
supply) on a post at the water's edge at the first (unplowed) parking
turn-off to the east. It was a beautiful very dark bird. Counted about
50 goldeneyes and 5 Red-breasted Mergansers in the open leads in the ice
along the shore, but no eider. Must be out there someplace.
