My sister, LuAnn Lewer, saw a heavily barred Snowy Owl on Friday, 2-28-2014, in Goodhue Co. It was on a telephone pole on Co Rd 16, about 3 miles west of Bellechester. It was near the intersection of Co Rd 4 and Co Rd 16.
Late this afternoon she also saw a mostly white Snowy Owl fly directly in front of her vehicle from the east across Co Rd 1 from Wabasha Co into Goodhue Co. This was a little more than a mile south of Co Rd 16 (actually just south of 410th Street/Co 42 Blvd). It pulled up and perched on a telephone pole for a while before proceeding a bit farther west.
Her husband had seen a snowy owl farther south on Co Rd 1, near the Trout Brook area (close to where Co Rd 1 and Co Rd 10/445th St intersect). A farmer had a bale in the field upon which the Snowy was perched.
These owls would be about 7-10 miles west of the ones previously located near Oak Center, MN (near US-63 and County Rd 16).
