Hi,
Since I have received such good advice from the list I wanted to
add my two cents worth. We have been writing CD's for over a year with
good luck and bad luck at times. Our first was a Smart and Friendly CDR on
a windows 3.1 platform. That went back to the company twice before we
discovered the problem was the cable not the CDR. The company had shipped
a cheap poorly shielded cable, when we switched to a good cable our
problems disappeared.
Although you didn't want to hear from Jaz users our current
configuration is a combination Jaz drive/CDR from APS. I can't say enough
good things about this arrangement. The two drives come in the same box
and so have the optimal configuration for writing cd's. We have a Bio-Rad
1024 running OS2 of course and have had good luck switching between macs
and pc's (no unix experience). We work on the Jaz discs until they are
full and then write a CD. One caveat with this setup is the initial
configuration is not easy, you need to download the os2 drivers from
Iomega's web page and installation wasn't straight forward. If you are
computer comfortable you should be able to do it, otherwise have your
service technician do it next time they are in town. I believe setup in
windows or mac would be easier.

P.S. In this configuration, 11 CD's 0 Frisbees
