Dear ISHPSSB members,

This is a message to inform you of some recent ISHPSSB
activities and to ask your help in recruiting new members.
New ISH Webmaster

I am pleased to announce that Rob Skipper
([log in to unmask]) is taking over from Valerie Hardcastle
as the Society's new webmaster.  Valerie served the Society well
as webmaster from 1998 to 2002. She designed and maintained
a very professional page that many members found quite
useful. Rob Skipper has graciously agreed to serve as the next
web master. He will, of course, have much to do on the web as
Program Chair for ISH03, but he has also agreed to continue as
webmaster after that meeting is over. I'm sure you join me in
thanking Valerie and Rob for their work on this important and
demanding job.

The ISHPSSB web page URL will not change for the time being:
http://www.phil.vt.edu/ishpssb
Our thanks to Valerie and Virginia Tech for their continued
help and support.
Print and Post New Membership Flyer

If you visit the page, scroll down to the Membership section of
the top page. There you will find a new printable Membership
Flyer in both A4 and 8.5"x11" formats.  You are urged to print
copies, post them on bulletin boards, give them to your
colleagues, and take them to professional meetings to
distribute to prospective members. I suspect there are many
people who would be interested in the Society and like to
attend ISH03 in Vienna, Austria, July 16-20, 2003, but do not
know about us.  So, please, help to spread the word.  Thanks to
Todd Grantham and the new Membership Development
Committee for designing the flyer.
Visit ISHPSSB table in Milwaukee

For those of you attending the Philosophy of Science
Association/History of Science Society meeting in Milwaukee,
November 7-9, 2002, look for a table near the book display
with copies of the Membership Flyer, staffed by ISH graduate
students. Thanks to Todd Grantham, Terry Sullivan (graduate
representative to the Council), and Jeff Malone (History of
Science Executive Secretary) for arranging this.  If it is a
convenient location, perhaps it can serve as an informal
gathering place for ISH members.  If transatlantic shipping
cooperates, the table may also have posters advertising the
Vienna meeting, prepared by our Vienna hosts, the Konrad
Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research (KLI). The
members of the ISHPSSB Council who are in Milwaukee will
meet for breakfast on Saturday, so if you have any concerns
that you would like the Council to address, speak to one of us
before Saturday.  Also, look for the Membership Flyer in the
PSA/HSS program.
Invitations to Host ISH07 due December 1, 2002

Just a reminder: Now is the time for invitations to host 2007 to
be submitted to President-Elect Michael Dietrich
([log in to unmask]); the deadline is December
1, 2002. The location should complement the ISH03 Vienna,
Austria, and the ISH05 Guelph, Canada, venues. Guidelines for
preparing in invitation are on the web page.
Visit new Vienna link

See the new link on the web page to information about Vienna,
including visa requirements, hotels, sightseeing, and after-
conference tours, prepared by KLI:

Visit Program Bulletin Board

Just a reminder: Session proposals and paper abstracts for
ISH03 are due February 1, 2003. Visit the ISHPSSB Program
Pages and check out the postings on the Program Bulletin
Board:
http://oz.uc.edu:8000/~skippera/
Only seven proposals have been posted so far; now is the time
to recruit others for a session you would like to propose. Just a
reminder:  those with accepted sessions and papers will be
notified in March and you must register for the conference by
April 1 to be included in the Vienna program.
