Hi AMSA peoples,
We will be having AMSA officer elections on Thursday, April 8th in PWB
6-224.
To show our gratitude for all the work you have done this year for AMSA,
we will provide lunch (most likely subs) for everyone. You need to RSVP
by email by Wednesday if you want to have a free lunch. If you are
vegetarian, please tell me.
Everyone is welcome to come even if you don't plan to run for leadership
or if you weren't able to participate in AMSA this past year. This is
your opportunity to direct the focus for AMSA 2004-2005.
Here is the proposed structure for officers for next year. The elected
officers can change around the structure to suit their needs. Each of
the four officers must also lead as one of the 2nd year action committee
chairs and recruit a 1st year action committee chair next school year.
This election process will be informal and we will allow 2 minutes each
to speak about your vision for AMSA next year, but you can choose to
plead the 5th amendment.
President:
As President of the U of M chapter of AMSA, you will be expected to
schedule, plan the agenda, and run our monthly meetings. You must
oversee committee functioning, and work towards maximizing communication
between all of our members, the Medical School Administration, and the
National AMSA office. You must keep members updated on Regional and
National priorities and upcoming conferences. Also, you will be
responsible for coordinating recruitment efforts of incoming students.
You must attend the Chapter Officers Conference in Washington DC (for
free) on July 15th-July 18th.
Vice President: (The officers can later changed this to co-president if
so desired.)
You will support the President in local activities. You will also be the
medical school contact person for our Pre-med members and various other
student grouips. You will manage the email listserve and facilitate
communication via the AMSA website (or recruit a webmaster).
Secretary:
You get to keep minutes for each meeting, send them over to the
webmaster to post on the web, and then to email the listserve. You will
also help with recruitment. You will document each event and keep
records for future years.
Treasurer:
You will keep track of the financial books and check book. Currently
our budget is about $13,000-$15,000 and so this is an important
position. Another important role as the treasurer is to help fundraise
and write grants.
Also, in other news, our medical school was chosen to be the site of
next fall's AMSA regional 8 conference. This is another opportunity to
showcase our school and bring issues like Healthcare, International
Health, PharmFree, Community Health, Physician Well Being, and Elections
to the forefront at our school and across our region (which includes
South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and
Minneosta).
