****************************************************************************
This listserv sends out brief descriptions only. For further
details, follow the link listed.
Please send me items to post to the list that would be of
interest to Society members: position announcements,
postdoctoral announcements, grant and funding opportunities,
conference announcements, calls for papers, and brief queries on
research topics. The sooner you send me something, the more
likely that I will be able to have it posted before its
deadline.
Thanks!

2.
Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and
Biomedical Sciences announces the June 2005 special issue
dedicated to "Mechanisms in Biology," with guest editors
Carl F. Craver and Lindley Darden. This issue combines
historical and philosophical perspectives on the following questions
(and related questions): disputes about what mechanisms are, how
mechanistic explanations differ from other explanations, which areas
of biology use or require mechanistic explanations, and how the
current enthusiasm in biology for mechanisms relates to historical
forms of mechanism in biology and elsewhere.
