Cambridge Studies in Philosophy and Biology series:
Evolutionary
Ethics and Contemporary Biology, by Giovanni Boniolo; and
Reasoning in Biological Discoveries: Essays on Mechanisms, Interfield
Relations, and Anomaly Resolution, by Lindley Darden.

2. The Center for the Philosophy of Science at the University of
Pittsburgh invites philosophers of science to work in the Center for a
term or a year, and announces two conferences: "Bayesianism,
Fundamentally" (
13-14 October 2006) and Confirmation,
Induction and Science, (
8-10 March 2007).

3. Discussants (and listeners) welcome for a "dialogue
session" on "Heterogeneity and heritability: Responses from
sociology, philosophy, and history of science" (concerning a
paper by Peter Taylor) to be held at the meetings of the Society for
Social Studies of Science, Vancouver, BC,
2-4 November 2006,
but incorporating participants from History of Science Society, and
Philosophy of Science Association.

4. The University of Oklahoma invites nominations and
applications for a faculty position at the rank of assistant professor
(tenure-track) in the Department of the History of Science. They
seek candidates whose scholarship addresses the history of science,
technology or medicine in any period from antiquity to 1800 in any
national or regional context. Review of applications will begin
October 16, 2006 and continue until the position is filled.

5. The University of Oklahoma invites nominations and
applications for a faculty position at the rank of assistant professor
(tenure-track) or associate professor (tenured) in the Department of
the History of Science. They seek candidates whose scholarship
addresses the modern history of science, technology or medicine
outside North America. Review of applications will begin
October 16, 2006 and continue until the position is filled.

6. The Cardiff School of English, Communication and Philosophy is
seeking to appoint a scholar with a proven track record of research
and teaching in the Philosophy of Science to a permanent lectureship.
Applicants with expertise in the Philosophy of Biology and of Genetics

7. New Society: The "Brazilian Society for the Philosophy
and History of Biology" (Associação Brasileira de Filosofia e
História da Biologia, ABFHiB). The aim of this society is to
organize meetings, publications and other activities to stimulate
research and teaching on history and philosophy of biology, in Brazil
and other Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries.

8. PHILDEVO, the Philosophy and Developmental Biology
Working Group, is meeting in just following the PSA/HSS/4S meetings in
Vancouver BC,
5-6 November 2006. This is largely a themed
session on homology, with papers by Ingo Brigandt, Marc Ereshefsky,
Paul Griffiths, Alan Love, and Mohan Matthen.
