Listserv for the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (see the end of this message for directions on how to subscribe and unsubscribe from this listserv) **************************************************************************** Reminder: Imminent deadline for abstracts for Brisbane (ISH 2009): 1 Feb 2009 Relevant links: Call for Papers and other meeting info: http://www.ishpssb.org/meeting.html ISHPSSB 2009 Bulletin Boards (find people to form a session with and give/get travel tips): http://www.ishpssb.org/phorum/index.php?18 President's Corner: http://www.ishpssb.org/presidentscorner.html Student Travel Support for ISHPSSB 2009 in Brisbane The society's allocation of support for student travel is determined by these priorities: (1) students who are presenting papers at the biennial conference or participating in ISHPSSB governance; (2) students who have never received previous funding; and (3) students who did not receive funding at the previous ISHPSSB meeting. The society has the financial means to support only a portion of students' travel costs. Award amounts will depend on the total amount of funding available to ISHPSSB, the relative cost of travel between students' homes and Brisbane, and the ability of participants to provide additional resources. For ISHPSSB 2007 in Exeter, award amounts ranged from USD 70 to USD 1000. There is a possibility that National Science Foundation funds will supplement the support for student travel already available from ISHPSSB and the Brisbane organizers, but this will not be confirmed until around the date of the conference. Recipients of NSF funds must fly a U.S. flag carrier if one serves their travel route. Please bear this in mind when making your travel plans: if a U.S. flag carrier (e.g. Delta, United, or American Airlines) serves your travel route, including as a code-share on a non-U.S. carrier, and is comparable in cost to your other options, then potentially, choosing the U.S. flag carrier will maximize the total amount of funds available for travel grants. Application forms are available on the society's website at: <http://www.ishpssb.org/meeting.html#travsupport>http://www.ishpssb.org/meeting.html#travsupport Send applications and supporting documentation to Lisa Gannett, ISHPSSB Treasurer: via email attachment to <mailto:[log in to unmask]>[log in to unmask]; via fax to Department of Philosophy, Saint Mary's University, (902) 491-6286; or via regular mail to Department of Philosophy, Saint Mary's University, 923 Robie St., Halifax, NS, B3A 1T8, Canada. For your application to be considered complete, your graduate advisor must send an email to <mailto:[log in to unmask]>[log in to unmask] confirming the amount and source of any additional financial support you have available and that you are currently enrolled as a full-time graduate student. The deadline for receipt of complete applications is April 1st 2009. This deadline is firm: NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
