1. Philosophy & Theory in Biology (P&TB) is a
new peer-reviewed open-access online journal to
be launched in the Fall of 2009, and it aims to
bring together philosophers of science and
theoretically inclined biologists in order to
interact across disciplinary boundaries. They
seek papers that are methodologically diverse,
including but not limited to standard philosophy
of biology analyses of concepts or research
programs and 'theoretical' papers by biologists.

2. To commemorate the bicentennial of the birth
of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of
the publication of The Origin of Species, the
California Academy of Sciences, in collaboration
with the Pacific Division of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science, will
sponsor a "Symposium on Darwin and the Galapagos"
on August 14 and 15, 2009. Those who register in
advance for the AAASPD meeting may request a
ticket in advance at no additional cost. If
space is available tickets can also be obtained
at the door with on-site registration.

3. The Cohn Institute Tel Aviv University, The
Edelstein Center, The Hebrew University of
Jerusalem, and the Van Leer Institute of
Jerusalem announce a workshop "Transformations of
Lamarckism," June 7-10, 2009, Tel Aviv
University. The workshop celebrates the 200th
anniversary of the publication of Lamarck's
Philosophie Zoölogique and brings together
historians, philosophers and biologists concerned
with present-day issues in biology. Admission is
free.

4. Call for abstracts and papers for "Social
Sciences," the 25th Boulder Conference on the
History and Philosophy of Science at the
University of Colorado at Boulder, October 9-11,
2009. Although preference will be given to
papers dealing with the social sciences,
submissions in any area of the history or
philosophy of science will be considered.
Deadline for submissions is August 15, 2009.

includes up-dated registration, accommodation and
travel details for the IHPST Group's coming Notre

6. Call for extended abstracts for "Levels of
Selection and Individuality in Evolution:
Conceptual Issues and the Role of Artificial Life
Models," Workshop at ECAL 2009 conference
(13th-16th September, Budapest, Hungary).
Submissions are invited that discuss any aspect
of levels of selection, organisation, and
individuality in evolution. Submission deadline:
22 June 2009.

7. Call for papers for "Emergence and Reduction
in the Sciences," Second Pittsburgh-Paris
Workshop, December 11-12, 2009 (possibly
extending to morning, December 13) at the Center
for Philosophy of Science, University of
Pittsburgh (co-sponsored by l'Institut d'Histoire
et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques,
Paris). The organizers invite papers that
address these dual notions in any science. Papers
that connect the notions in several sciences are
encouraged. Deadline for submission: August 15,
2009.

8. Call for papers for "Darwin in the
Twenty-First Century: Nature, Humanity, and God,"
November 1-3, 2009, at the University of Notre
Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. The conference is
devoted to evolutionary theory in its scientific,
anthropological, philosophical, and theological
dimensions as a contribution to the 150th
anniversary of the publication of The Origin of
Species. Deadline for abstracts: June 12, 2009.

9. The History and Philosophy of Science Program
at Florida State University will be hosting its
biennial Werkmeister Conference on June 2, 2009
and will be using the occasion to celebrate the
80th birthday of Edward O. Wilson. There will be
a series of papers given on topics related to the
work of Dr. Wilson. These talks will include
short discussion and Professor Wilson will be
invited to comment. There is no charge, but
space is limited, so registration is requested.
