****************************************************************************
This listserv sends out brief descriptions only.  For further details, follow the link listed.
Please send me items to post to the list that would be of interest to Society members:  position announcements, postdoctoral announcements, grant and funding opportunities, conference announcements, calls for papers, and brief queries on research topics.  The sooner you send me something, the more likely that I will be able to have it posted before its deadline.

Thanks!

This book, written in French, includes about 40 chapters dealing with many aspects and issues of evolutionary theories, ranging from population genetics, molecular biology and Evo Devo to medicine, sociology, robotics and ethics.  http://www.ishpssb.org/listserv/20091007-1.html

2. Call for papers: "Towards a Unified Science of Religion," Department of Philosophy, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, 12-14 February 2010.  This conference seeks to bring together different scientific theories of religion, in cognitive science, anthropology, and evolutionary psychology, to explore the possibility of a unified science of religion.  Deadline for abstracts: 15 December 2009http://www.ishpssb.org/listserv/20091007-2.html

3. 4. New book: Stephen G. Brush, Choosing Selection: The Revival of Natural Selection in Anglo-American Evolutionary Biology, 1930-1970, Philadelphia: American Philosophical Society.  This book describes the establishment of the hypothesis that Charles Darwin's "natural selection," reformulated by R.A. Fisher, J.B. S. Haldane, and S. Wright in the light of Mendelian genetics, is the primary or exclusive mechanism for biological evolution.  http://www.ishpssb.org/listserv/20091007-4.html

5. This View of Life: Evolutionary Art for the Year of Darwin, University of Guelph and Ed Video Media Arts Centre, Guelph, Ontario, Canada.  Scientists and humanists at the University of Guelph have come together to organize an event that celebrates not only the scientific and historical significance of Darwin's work but also the ways that evolutionary theory and natural history continue to inspire creativity across the disciplines.  Exhibition: October 9 to 30.  Opening reception: October 16http://www.ishpssb.org/listserv/20091007-5.html
